Dr. Maayan Kreitzman holds an NSERC postdoctoral fellowship based at ISFS, studying transitions to temperate perennial-based agricultural systems.
Dr. Kreitzman’s research focuses on temperate perennial systems at the intersection of orcharding and agroforestry, and the environmental and agronomic dimensions of transitions to such systems. She believes that agroforestry can extend beyond the edge of the field to occupy prime agricultural spaces with well-designed, woody, and herbaceous polycultures for food production.
Dr. Kreitzman earned her B.Sc. in plant biology at UBC and her M.Sc. in genetics at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. She returned to UBC for her Ph.D. at the Institute for Resources Environment and Sustainability, where she carried out a study of ecological and agronomic outcomes on Midwestern woody perennial polyculture farms. Dr. Kreitzman volunteers for the Association for Temperate Agroforestry and serves on the steering committee for the BC Agricultural Climate Action Research Network.
